Ayurvedic Treatment to Curb the Pain While Urination (Mutrakriccha)

Some people experience pain while micturition (passing urine). This is often quite painful, awful, and creates discomfort. In medical terms, this problem is known as Dysuria and in Ayurveda, it is known by the name of Mutrakriccha. 

Causes of painful urination -  

Painful urination, Mutrakriccha, or Dysuria is mainly seen when there is an infection in the urinary tract, vaginal infection, inflammation of the urethra, or vagina. This Urinary tract infection develops when there is an excess of bacterial build up in the urinary tract. 

Who is more prone to painful urination?

However, anyone can be affected by this problem but women are much prone to this pain. It is mainly seen due to urinary tract infection in women. 

Some other people with a higher risk of painful urination include – 

  • Pregnant women

  • Men and women who have diabetes

  • Men and women with any type of disease of the bladder

Symptoms of painful urination (dysuria) - 

The pain can be at the start of the urination or after urination. The pain while urination can be external or internal. The pain on the outside of the vagina may be due to inflammation or irritation to the sensitive skin. Whereas an internal pain might be due to a symptom of urinary tract infection. 

The ayurvedic aspect of painful urination – 

Ayurveda is the holistic way and systemic approach to treating painful urination and this problem mainly arises when there is an imbalance seen in the Tridosha (Vata, Pitta, and Kapha).  

How can one prevent burning and painful urination – 

  • Drinking plenty of water is very important to flush out the urinary tract. 

  • Urinate before you go to the bed

  • Never hold your urge for a longer duration to urinate

  • Good hygiene is very important

  • Women should always wipe from the front area to the back after a bowel movement. 

  • In a similar way urinating just after sexual intercourse will help the bacteria from the urethra.  

  • Do not use any irritating product on the outside of the genitals if you experience painful urination. 

Things to keep in mind – 

Exposing too much on the sun should be avoided. Excessive exposure leads to excessive perspiration which takes away a lot of water content from the body and makes the urine concentrated. When this concentrated urine passes from the urinary tract it causes an intense burning sensation.

  1. Meditate to keep yourself calm and compose as a feeling of anger can cause internal inflammation. 

  2. Hot spices are strict no and drink water as much as possible. You can go with fresh lemon juice, coconut water, pineapple juice, etc. 

  3. Curd in your diet is mandatory as Lactobacilli bacteria helps to add probiotics in the diet. 

  4. Whenever you cook food, Cinnamon is very important. It has an excellent effect on the E.coli which is responsible for the urinary tract infection.  

  5. You can consume and drink coriander drinks to nourish and cool the urinary tract. 

  6. Include fiber in your diet in the form of kidney beans and horse gram. 

  7. Replace your normal white salt with pink salt, rock salt, or sea salt.


Ayurvedic treatment to reduce the symptoms of painful urination –

Satyanashi is an underrated herb very effective to cure burning sensation and painful urination.
