3 Important Things to Know When Purchasing a Trailer Hitch Receiver for Sale

Posted by airsafehitches in Travel on January 20th, 2020

Do you know a lot about towing and hitches? Probably not. Even if you tow every day or on a regular basis, you still don’t purchase a new hitch very often. That means when it comes time to do so, you're not as knowledgeable as you wish you were. That’s okay! Let’s take the time today to learn what you need to know in order to make an informed decision:

Tip #1 All trailer hitches are not the same. You may be thinking “It doesn’t matter which one I get.” Not true at all! There are 5th wheel hitches, adjustable hitches, air pin boxes, receivers, goosenecks, and so many more. So, which one is right for you? This depends on your vehicle as well as what you are actually towing. Horse trailers, concessions trailers, boat trailers, and large motor homes all have different requirements. Of course, you don’t have an unlimited budget. For many, finding low trailer hitch receiver prices affects their final choice as well.

Tip #2 Consider getting an adjustable receiver hitch. Adjustable trailer receiver hitches are incredibly convenient, no matter how many different items you tow. You may be saying “But I only tow one thing!” Adjustable hitches are designed for use on RVs and can be bolted to your vehicle frame, or welded on, for a no-drill application. This means it is easy to take off when you reach your destination and want to travel easily in city streets again. You may only tow one thing, but you’re not always towing it. It’s also important to keep in mind that just because you currently tow one thing doesn’t mean that will always be the case. You could purchase a new animal trailer or RV a year from now, and you’ll be glad you bought an adjustable one and don’t need to purchase a new hitch all over again.

Tip #3 A very low price sometimes means it’s not the best hitch. “I’ll just look for the lowest price.” you may be saying. You already know in the back of your mind that this is a risk. With purchases from shoes to cars to yes even hitches, shopping for the lowest price won’t bring you the best product. When you are ready to get a new trailer hitch, the price alone is not the only thing you should be concerned with.  In fact, the cheapest will probably end up costing you more in the long run, in the form of gas, chiropractor visits, and car repairs! Remember, all of those long drives can get quite bumpy and uncomfortable! That is because the extra weight of the camper pulls your truck backwards while you are trying to drive forwards, adding lots of tugging and jarring. Of course, it is easy to see why your gas mileage and transmission would be negatively affected by this as well. For this reason, you should find the best trailer hitch for your towing needs, not just the least expensive.

Now that you’re a little more knowledgeable, it is time to make a purchase. Shopping online is the ideal way to find trailer hitch receiver prices that are low enough to easily afford, without spending all day driving all over town to compare prices. When you shop online, the price will be lower but it won’t be because you are sacrificing quality. Take your time and shop online, and when you click the purchase button you’ll feel good about your final decision.
