The classical music festivals have a vast spread all across the country. These festivals apart from being a fusion of harmony and rhythm are hosted in rich and cultural heritage destinations that add to the aura of the event in its entirety.

The classical music genre in India itself is a heritage legacy thriving amidst the new styles that are getting increasingly popular. People, who are ardent followers of classical genre or enjoy the music, await these festivals as they bring on stage the legends of classical music.

Here is a list of the upcoming classical music festival in India that may want to attend:

                                      

Delhi Classical Music Festival

Date: 18th – 22nd October 2018

Venue: Kamani Auditorium, Delhi 

If you are an Indian classical music connoisseur, these five days will be your date with some of the country's most admired maestros who will preside a the Delhi Classical Music Festival 2018. Pandit Jasraj, Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt and Ustad Rashid Khan, among others, will showcase multiple genres at the festival, to be held at the Kamani Auditorium here.

The event will host the legends of various classical music traditions like the vocalists, sitar players, Veena Vadaks, and Santoor maestros. The Department of Art, Culture, and Languages of the Delhi Government and Sahitya Kala Parishad is organizing the festival which was inaugurated by Minister of Culture - Kapil Mishra.

 

Dhaval Nisha - Celebrating Sharad Poornima

Date: 24th October 2018

Venue: Nehru Centre, Mumbai

‘Sharad Poornima' is the night of the full moon in the month of ‘Ashwin.' As the legend goes, it is the night when Lord Krishna would play 'Ras Leela' with Radha and the 'Gopis' the entire night.

Experiencing this important moonlight night is known to make the mind peaceful. During this time of the month, the moon is closest to the earth that makes it appear big and bright. The moon rays are said to have curative properties. This event is also known as 'Dhawal Utsav' as we consume everything that is white - puffed rice, milk, sugar, and even the moonlight. It is the brightest & longest night in the entire year.

Renowned artists like Bharathi Prathap (Vocal), Sabir Khan (Sarangi) and Jayateerth Mevundi (Vocal) will be performing on this eventful night.   

 

Festival of Dhrupad

Date: 27th – 28th October 2018

Venue: Experimental Theatre: NCPA

Amita Sinha, Janhavi Phansalkar, internationally renowned vocalists Umakant and Ramakant Gundecha, Murali Mohan Gouda and Heikel Ben Mlouka, Asit Kumar Banerjee and Rajshekhar Vyas, renowned pakhawaj maestro Shrikant Mishra and Akhilesh Gundecha, Dnyaneshwar Deshmukh and Anuja Borude are the line-up of Festival of Dhrupad.

 

Kalidas Samaroh

Date: 1st – 6th November 2018

Venue: Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh 

This festival is dedicated to Mahakavi Kalidasa where all you will notice is dance, music & theatre based on Kalidas' poetry and ‘dohas'. The Kalidasa Akademi organizes it under the patronage of the Department of Culture, Government of Madhya Pradesh. The festival has earlier called upon music maestros like Anoop Jalota and Pandit Debu Choudhary and inaugurated by Swami Satyamitranand Giri. The event includes Kalidas Alankaran Samaroh and a Sanskrit drama -'Abhigyanashakuntalam', a ballet based on Ritusandhar by Sandhya Purecha of Mumbai and classical music by Pandit Ajay Pohankar, Pandit Ganpati Bhatt from Karnataka.

 

Classical music is the heritage of cultural India and still has vast following both nationally and internationally. These music festivals give us the opportunity to experience our heritage and acknowledge the relevance it has being a culturally-rich country.
