Posted by oxbowacademy in Health on January 17th, 2020

No doubt, addiction to pornographic and adult content is obviously a dangerous thing for teens in an era of high-speed internet and digital media. The effects of this hardcore internet pornography do not only harming the lives of innocent teens but also their parents, who are working very hard to make their teens' future bright. While it is true that teens go through many changes, including physical and mental, the difference in their behavior usually comes from their digital media that show adult content. And this where teens start hiding something from their parents, and due to this lesser communication between both, the teens end up consuming more adult content making them entirely addicted. As a parent, if you know your teen is growing through this phase, it always necessary to take precautionary measures and avoid various misconceptions to help their teens. Therefore, avoid these following misconceptions when thinking about teenage porn addiction therapy.

Myth 1# Porn Addiction Shouldn't be Treated like an Addiction

There is not a single fact that declares porn addiction is not an actual addiction. Instead, the frequent use of porn has all the significant elements that can suggest it is an addiction. Teens who utilize it often hide their pain and their emotions. Teens suffering from porn addiction not only disconnects them from the world but also adversely affect their relationship with others.

Myth 2# It Only Affects the One Who Uses it, Not Others

While it does affect teens who frequently use it, but there is a ripple effect in the behavior of others, including family members. Usually, when a teen utilize porn constantly, it has very hard for them to realize these things. And this also has led teens to neglect crucial relationships to pursue porn instead.

Myth 3# It is Good Way to Deal Sexual Desires

As everyone knows, teens go through various changes, and one of the significant changes is sex hormone stimulation that led them to feel love and affection towards the opposite sex or the same sex. Pornography, in this sense, increases sexual desires and makes it more likely a sexual appetite that can be very hard to overcome. Therefore, the above statement is incorrect as there is no way that it can be good for sexual desires, instead, it can pollute those sexual desires.

Myth 4# It Only Affects Boys

While it is true that a lot of teenage boys are a victim of porn addiction, but it is not correct to say that it only affects boys. There are about 10% of teenage girls who are constantly watching porn, and these numbers are rising as adult content prevails in our society.

Porn addiction is a matter of concern, and every parent must enroll their teens to teen porn addiction treatment. But before, that make sure to avoid these following misconceptions.
