Follow the steps when switching a payment gateway

At any time if you find yourself in a situation where the payment gateway you use no longer fits your needs, then the good news is that you can switch your payment gateway. With so many payment gateways available in the market, it is not surprising for merchants to switch from one payment gateway to another. But how do we switch gateways? Read on to know more.

Even though switching payment gateway might sound complicated, but it is an easy process. But, before that, let us have a look at some of the signs that indicate that you need to look for an alternative payment gateway.

Delay in Funding

If the existing payment gateway provider takes too much time to provide you with the funds that you are entitled to, then you need to first talk to the provider and try to resolve the issue. In case, it is not possible, then perhaps, it is time to switch your payment gateway.

No multi-currency support

If you are expanding your business globally, then you need a payment platform that allows you to accept payments in multiple currencies. If your current payment platform does not offer you this feature, then it makes sense to look for an alternative payment gateway that can support multi-currency payment processing.

Lack of features

May be when you started, your gateway provided you with a set of features, but with times the needs of a business also change. In case, if you need some extra features which your current payment gateway is unable to accommodate, then you need an alternative payment platform that can offer you the new features.

Now, let us have a look at the steps that a merchant needs to follow to enjoy a seamless and hassle-free experience. So, if you are considering switching gateways, here is what you need to follow:

Before we start, always remember not to ever disable or remove your existing gateway until you are absolutely ready with the new one.

  1. STEP 1: You need to configure your new gateway by clicking the "Add Payment Gateway" button. Ensure that you disable it so that no payments are accidentally sent through the new gateway before it is completely ready to be used.
  2. STEP 2: Once the configuration is complete, it is time to test the gateway. The testing of the gateway configuration will identify potential issues. If the test is successful, then you can go ahead and process the payments through your new gateway.
  3. STEP 3: Meanwhile you need to run a test transaction to validate your new gateway. If in case the test transaction fails, then you can always turn back to your old gateway and in case it is successful then you are all set to go.

If the current payment gateway hampers your business growth, then you should look for alternatives. Remember, before switching a payment gateway, you need to analyze how the new payment gateway is going to add value to your business. Ensure that the new one is a good replacement for the payment gateway which you are currently using.
