Cameron Brate Jersey

Posted by linchao in Sports on September 19th, 2018

When you play for the Detroit Lions Chris Doleman Jersey , you can be from Canada and still be considered local.

Luke Willson, a tight end who signed with the Lions two months ago after five seasons with Seattle, is from Windsor, Ontario, right across the Detroit River from the Motor City. He grew up a Lions fan, although that’s not his only motivation to play well after returning to the area.

”I was a big Barry Sanders guy. When I was a kid, it was kind of like the Herman Moore, Barry Sanders,” Willson said this week. ”I was a youngster, but I’ve always kind of, you know, liked the Lions growing up. But that being said I think it’s important for me to establish a divide. Yeah it was my childhood team, but I’m here to do a job.”

It’s been a fairly quiet offseason for the Lions where free agency is concerned, but Willson was an interesting pickup Carl Banks Jersey , especially after Detroit cut ties with tight end Eric Ebron. A former first-round draft pick, Ebron became a target for Lions fans for dropping passes, but he did provide production that Detroit needs to replace. He caught 186 passes over the past four years, including 53 for 574 yards and four touchdowns last season.

In five seasons with Seattle, the 6-foot-5 Willson never had more than 22 catches, but the Seahawks have had other tight ends to throw to like Jimmy Graham and Zach Miller, so Willson may be capable of more.

”I really try to pride myself on being able to do whatever they ask,” Willson said. ”You know, my first year we had Zach Miller, I was more the down-the-seam tight end, and Zach got hurt and you know, I had to quickly learn to be more the hand-down type guy. I think that’s kind of benefited me in my career because I feel comfortable doing whatever they ask me to do.”

Willson said at this stage of the offseason, it’s too early to tell what exactly his role will be with the Lions.

”I’m here to do whatever the coaches ask me and right now, you know with all the CBA rules Dustin Colquitt Jersey , it’s personally just about getting better each day,” he said. ”A lot of individual stuff for me that I can get better and just showing the coaches what I can do, and then from there they’ll decide what role I’ll be playing this year.”

Despite the proximity to the U.S., Willson said the quality of high school football where he grew up wasn’t great. He played on a summer team he likened to AAU basketball. He ended up playing college football at Rice, and he was drafted by the Seahawks in the fifth round in 2013.

He has carved out a decent NFL career for himself since then, and now he has a chance to come back and play close to home – although it sounds like he’ll be living on the Detroit side of the river now.

”Got to shield myself from those Canadian taxes, man,” he said. ”Come on, now. Can’t be doing that. Can’t be doing that.”

With Giants quarterback Eli Manning facing a fraud trial in New Jersey Superior Court, he apparently doesn’t have a problem in the Court of Roger Goodell. Yet.

The NFL had declined comment regarding whether the latest development in the memorabilia fraud case against Manning and the Giants pulls the situation within the Personal Conduct Policy or has sparked an investigation under the policy. A Thursday ruling from the presiding judge determined that Manning will be the only defendant who faces a claim of common-law fraud before a jury.

The NFL’s Personal Conduct Policy specifically prohibits “[c]rimes of dishonesty such as blackmail, extortion, fraud, money laundering, or racketeering.” (Emphasis added.) More generally Cameron Brate Jersey , the policy forbids “[c]onduct that undermines or puts at risk the integrity of the NFL, NFL clubs, or NFL personnel.”

Eli Manning is one of the most liked and respected players in the NFL. I like and respect him. But if a jury finds that he perpetrated a fraud regarding game-used helmets that weren’t actually game-used, those two portions of the Personal Conduct Policy can’t be ignored.

The league may, if Eli eventually is found to have committed fraud under New Jersey civil laws, contend that there’s a difference between civil and criminal fraud. However, fraud is fraud.

Under New Jersey civil law, fraud happens when聽someone lies about an important factual matter (“this helmet I’m selling was game used”), when the person knows or believes he’s lying (“this helmet I’m selling was never actually game used”), when the person wants someone else to rely on the lie (“I hope they accept this helmet as game used even though it isn’t”), when someone else relies on it (“I’ve pulled it off“), 聽and when the person who relies on it experiences a loss of money or other tangible harm.聽Under federal law, fraud becomes a crime when the means to perpetrate it are the mail (mail fraud) or electronic communications (wire fraud).

In this case, the question of whether a New Jersey civil fraud becomes federal criminal wire fraud may hinge on that one specific email sent by Eli Manning requesting “2 helmets that can pass as game used.” Technical defenses could include an argument that the email message never actually crossed state lines. Even if the sender and recipient are located in the same state Blake Martinez Jersey , it’s hard to imagine every email ever sent not crossing state lines as it moves from sender to server to another server to recipient.

And even if Eli Manning is never charged with wire fraud, Ezekiel Elliott was never charged with a crime, either. Which underscores one of the major problems that the NFL created for itself when establishing an in-house operation that investigates, prosecutes, and convicts under a vague, shadowy, confusing process that seems to be guided more by P.R. than by notions of fairness and justice.

While the NFL’s “no comment” doesn’t mean the NFL isn’t investigating the situation, the NFL typically isn’t bashful about acknowledging when a Personal Conduct Policy investigation has been launched. In this case, “no comment” could instead mean something like, “Oh crap we’ve created a monster that could force us into taking action against someone we don’t really want to take action against.”
