Azure backup and recovery are used for creating back up and restoring the data in the Microsoft Cloud. It is a better substitute for the on-premise backup solution because of its reliability, security, and cost-efficiency. Various components are available that can be downloaded and deployed on a computer, server or in the cloud on the basis of what is intended to be protected, in the Azure backup process. These Azure Backup components can be used for creating a backup to the Azure's Recovery Services vault.

Azure provides for automatic storage management which is fit for the hybrid environments that need heterogeneous storage, i.e. on-premise storage as well as cloud storage devices. In Azure Backup, the use of the on-premise storage has zero cost. The backup storage implements a pay-as-you-use model i.e. paying for the storage that is actually consumed. It is automatically allocated and managed.

Axure backup which forms a vital part of the [[azure disaster recovery]] utilizes the unlimited scaling feature of the Azure Cloud to ensure high availability without the need of any maintenance or monitoring overhead charges. This high availability feature is materialized through the multiple replications of the storage. There are 2 types of replications available:

a. Locally redundant storage-This is a cost-effective option to enable data protection in case of local hardware failures by making 3 copies of data in a data center, all existing in the same region.

b.Geo-redundant storage-This is a default option where the data is replicated to a second region which is very far away from the primary location. It is comparatively costlier than LRS and ensures high durability in case of a regional outage.

Unlimited amount of data transfer is possible through Azure Backup which is not chargeable except when a huge amount of data import/export is opted for. The data transmission and storage in public cloud is secured through data encryption. Azure recovery service vaults can be used for data retention for a shorter or a longer duration as per the need.

Azure disaster recovery plan can be used to attain low recovery point objective (RPO) as well as recovery time objective (RTO) targets for the major systems in a firm in a cost-effective manner. It protects and provides support for a large number of enterprise applications. It takes a few hours instead of months or weeks, for failover of the apps and the complete data center because of the automated recovery plans. It is possible to run tests in Azure to be confident about its performance in case of a disaster.

Azure backup and Azure Site Recovery can be helpful in achieving seamless VMware VM backup and recovery. It is cost effective as the firm doesn't have to pay for any infrastructure or their maintenance. It requires only a few steps for data protection and testing the disaster recovery plan.
