Knowing more about 24 hr home care
Elderly members of the family require attention and help at one point and perhaps other members are not able to dedicate their entire time for this purpose. There are different possibilities available, such as nursing homes, 24 hr home care and hiring a live-in caregiver. Each option has its features, but what matters is the family member that requires help and what is best for him/her.
There are differences between 24 hr home care and live-in careand people should know them in order to take the right decision. In both cases the elderly gets to stay in the house and doesn’t have to move in a nursing home. Moving from their home is never a good option for them, as they have to say goodbye to their belongings, to the house in which they grew and to all their familiar places. It is rather traumatizing and some people don’t even get over this aspect. This is why families have to consider other options, which are friendlier and provide more benefits.
As for the live-in care, there is the live-in caregiver that lives with the family and becomes part of the household. They don’t just look after the elderly, but the house as well, cleaning it, preparing meals, taking care of the garden, the pets, if there are any and such. In the same time, they do the shopping and make sure the elder takes their medication and follows the given treatment, helps him/her get out of the house, take walks, visit relatives, practice their hobbies and such. Once they live inside the house, they have their own room and they need an eight-hour sleeping break.
On the other hand, 24-hour home careis slightly different. There are minimum 2 caregivers and each of them take turns in caring for the elderly, in shifts. Sleeping breaks are negotiated and they vary according to existing complications and how much care people need, what they suffer from and such. With two caregivers, you need to be aware that they will be in and out of the house daily and the elderly will interact with them, they have to get familiar with them. This is often an issue, as elders prefer establishing a connection with a single person, trusting them and establishing a strong bond.
With live-in care, this is not an issue, as the person moves in the house and is the only one that gets in contact with the elder. No matter the option you choose, what matters is to think about the person you love, what is best for him/her, for their condition. If you can’t decide on your own, you can always discuss with an agency that provides the services of caregivers. You have a chance to get to know caregivers better, find out exactly what they provide and the agency also has contacts and collaborates with many caregivers, so you have candidates to choose from.
